Breaking Barriers
Laxmi’s Journey into the Electric Vehicle Sector
Inspiring Story

Laxmi, a 33-year-old resident of Shiv Nagar, Bhopal, is a mother of two who once struggled to support her family on her husband’s modest income as an auto driver. With education up to Class 8 and limited employment opportunities, she often felt that her dreams of contributing financially and securing a better future for her children were beyond reach. The rising cost of living and concerns about her children’s education made the situation even more challenging, leaving the family uncertain about the future.
Her life began to change when she enrolled in the Electric Vehicle Training Program (Batch 6) organized by Priyanshi Educational Cultural Social Society (PECSS) with the support of the Desai Foundation Trust (DFT). During the training, Laxmi actively participated, asked questions, and showed remarkable dedication. She gained knowledge in electric vehicle fundamentals, battery technology and management, charging infrastructure and safety protocols, and developed practical driving skills. A small but powerful moment during her driving practice—earning ₹30 by carrying two passengers for a short 300-meter ride—ignited a new sense of confidence and possibility in her.
Today, Laxmi has started driving her husband’s auto, ferrying school children and earning ₹5,000 per month by charging ₹1,000 per student for five students. This additional income has significantly strengthened her family’s financial stability. More importantly, she is challenging traditional gender roles and proving that women can succeed in non-traditional sectors like electric mobility. Laxmi’s journey is just the beginning, but it already stands as an inspiring example of resilience, courage, and the transformative power of skill development.
